Heat pump costs in 2026

For an air-to-water heat pump, use £10,000–£16,000 before grants as a broad planning allowance. The final design can fall outside that range.

Start with the property

Energy Saving Trust currently gives a typical installed cost around £12,000. Heat loss, radiators, cylinder space, pipework and electrical supply affect the design and cost.

Separate the grant from the price

Ask for the gross installed price, any eligible grant and the amount you pay shown separately. Do not assume grant eligibility from the estimator.

Compare running costs carefully

A heat pump’s running cost depends on the system’s seasonal efficiency, flow temperature, tariff, heating demand and the fuel it replaces. A lower installation quote does not automatically produce a lower lifetime cost.
