Solar panel costs in 2026

A useful starting budget for a conventional domestic rooftop system is £6,000–£10,000 without a battery. This is our broad planning range, not a quoted minimum or maximum.

What the benchmark means

Energy Saving Trust gives around £7,600 for a typical 4.5 kWp system. Your price changes with capacity, roof access, scaffolding, equipment and electrical work. Compare installed totals for the same specification.

What to put in your quote request

Ask for panel and inverter models, estimated annual generation and its assumptions, scaffolding, bird protection if wanted, monitoring, warranty terms, commissioning and any electrical upgrades.

Adding storage

A battery is a separate design choice. Its useful capacity and the timing of your electricity demand matter more than a headline panel count. Request solar-only and solar-plus-storage options.
